My "Quiet Woodworking" is focused around the love, passion and enjoyment that I find using hand-tools while woodworking. While power tools have their place, and I still have and use them, my whole "Quiet Woodworking" is based around the use, enjoyment and love of hand tools. Nothing beats the sound of great (quiet) music while woodworking amd the use of hand tools allows that to be an ongoing part of your day.. The joy of a half thou' shaving curling from a well-tuned plane or a row of well cut dovetails provides the creator with an unequaled sense of personal satisfaction. My courses are directly aimed at increasing your personal enjoyment/skill and fun with hand tool woodworking. There are exceptions to this and the wooden hinge box course is one such exception where we incorporate routers in the process but, for the most part, it is all about hand tools. The course schedule will continue to change as my student feedback increases.

These two courses are the most important courses that I teach. If you want to do hand work and you can't sharpen quickly and effectively, you will not be able to do good work. It is that simple. You will make and take home a shooting board, planing board, and bench hook. You will need your own water stones and a method to flatten them.
Note: You must have your own sharpening equipment. Talk to me prior to the start date of class.

Yes, you are welcome to bring your own planes as we will be sharpening them in the morning for use in the afternoon. You will need your own water stones and a method to flatten them.

This is the dovetail vise that I invented in 2016. (it only took me 40 years to come up with something new and was done in direct retailiation to the twin screw 'Moxon' vise furor!) Cost includes all materials and the vise hardware. Once you've used this vise you will be blown away with both how simple it is and how well it works. Not to mention how small it is! It is made/sized to dovetail drawers and boxes but it is not made to dovetail full sized blanket chests.
